"To Paint is one of the most exciting and fulfilling things to do!"
I have painted portraits since I can remember - well before art school. And even though my father insisted that I study graphics at art school (so I could get a job later), I would study graphics during the day at Chelsea School of Art, then go home and paint portraits at night - and often all night! People's faces fascinate me and I'm never happier than when interpreting what I see onto the canvas.
Recently I have seen my graphics background emerge in my 'imaginary portraits', which you can see on the page so named. They are paintings that I have painted from my memory of the many faces I have studied and enjoyed throughout my life.
Also do contact me if you are interested in commissioning me to paint you or a loved one - I mainly paint head and shoulders, as it is faces that most intrigue me. I paint in oils, using either brushes or palette knives.
This client said on receiving her portrait: "The last three years have held some big challenges ... Tessa, you have reminded me of the light behind my eyes and I can see how far I've come along this path when I look at this painting in a way that I can't when I look in the mirror. So thank you, dear Tessa, for capturing my spirit and helping me to see things in a bigger way through the medium of paint and your inspirational creativity!'
Many of the paintings on the different pages of this site are for sale. Please contact me for details.
I also occasionally branch out into painting abstracts, when I feel my painting is getting too tight. You can see a couple of examples of these on the Abstract page.
Below you can see me, together with my husband Markus, talking about one of our exhibitions together.
